I can not open SAFARI

I recently updated my Mac to newest, and now it's a mess! Safari will not open. It now appears on dock, I'd like to add it to my favorites, it won't add. I can only search for things and open sites on google. Annoyed. The dock shows the app with a an arrow pointing right, I click on open at login, and it does nothing.
