2019 MacBook Pro: Stuck in "macOS could not be installed" loop after failed DFU Restore
Hi,
I've been gifted a 2019 MacBook Pro, which had a full disk. Therefore all upgrades failed witha message
macOS Installation Error
macOS could not be installed on this computer
An error occurred while installing macOS. If you want to check your Mac's hardware using Apple Diagnostics, turn off your Mac, press the power button, and immediately press and hold the D key until the diagnostics start.
Quit the installer to allow the computer to restart, and try again.
(error message translated from different language)
Thing i have already tried:
- Hardware check with holding d while booting, ended with no problems found with hardware
- Recovery Mode Erase: Wiped the disk and attempted a fresh install via Internet Recovery. Failed with the message: "macOS could not be installed on this computer."
- DFU Revive: Used Apple Configurator 2 on a second Mac. The Revive finished successfully, but the subsequent OS installation failed with the same error.
- DFU Restore: Attempted a full Restore via Apple Configurator. The process completed on the host Mac, but the MacBook Pro failed during the "finalizing" stage of the OS install.
Current State:
The hardware is "Activated," but the SSD will not accept a new system. I can see the APPLE SSD in Disk Utility, but any attempt to install Catalina or newer fails at the end of the progress bar.
If only the installed would give me more specific message or some logs, but i have nothing.
Does anyone have any suggestions to what i could try?
