logic 12 audio dropouts issue with Tahoe 26.2

I am currently using macOS Tahoe 26.2 and Logic Pro 12.

Despite keeping both the operating system and Logic Pro fully up to date, I am still experiencing severe audio dropouts when recording just 3–4 tracks simultaneously. This is occurring on a MacBook Pro with the M4 Pro, which I purchased less than a month ago.

Because of this issue, I am unable to carry out professional audio work, and it has significantly disrupted my workflow. This is not a minor inconvenience but a critical problem that makes recording unreliable.

I am now in a very difficult and frustrating situation, as this system is essential for my work.

Is Apple aware of this issue, and when can we realistically expect a fix?

Hi, thanks for your reply.

The dropouts I’m experiencing are Logic Pro’s “System Overload”–related issues that occur primarily during real-time recording, not during playback or mixing in normal situations.

This happens even in a very simple session:

  • 1 software instrument (MIDI) track
  • 3 audio tracks recording simultaneously
  • Buffer size tested at both 128 and 256 samples

CPU usage is very low at the time of the issue, and memory usage is also far from max.

In some cases, the System Overload message appears shortly after starting recording. However, even when the System Overload warning does not appear, after about one minute of recording the audio begins to record with dropouts, as if buffering is occurring. The recorded audio contains audible gaps.

Additionally, this behavior is not limited to newly recorded sessions. When I bring in sessions that were recorded on another computer and play them back or edit them on this system, the same audio dropouts occur during playback and editing.

All third-party plugins are fully authorized (no trial or demo versions), and I have also tested with most plugins bypassed. The issue still occurs, especially when recording software instrument and audio tracks simultaneously.

This seems to be related to Logic Pro 12’s real-time audio engine behavior during recording and audio handling, rather than actual CPU overload.

Thanks for looking into this.
