True, full backups of downloaded content on an iPad

Does anyone know how to back up the books purchased from Apple in iBooks? The normal backup for an iPad does not actually back up the books, but instead backs up a catalog/listing of your books. I’ve had books disappeared that I have a) paid for, b) show up in my purchase history as being paid for c) are downloaded to my iPad, d) are still sold in iBooks, and e) support cannot retrieve or grant access to. Since Apple doesn’t truly back up all my downloaded books, there seems to be no way to get the books again without repurchasing. I refuse to rebuy things I already own. This also happens with music. Please let me know if you have a suggestion for a true backup option. My only thought is to logout of my apple account forever, never upgrade my IOS, never upgrade my device and pray my iPad doesn’t go belly up.

Thank you for the suggestion! I truly appreciate your help. I read the link you included to see if there was any new information. Unfortunately, I have tried all the suggestions in the links. I have worked with senior Apple engineers on this, and went through these steps and more. The 30ish books I am missing were actually deleted from my iPad library by Apple. They had been downloaded onto my iPad. The engineers and I think they were deleted by Apple when I had to restore from backup last year for my new iPad. Some of the books were purchased back starting in 2012. After trying Multiple solutions, the engineers came back with the following response and let me know there was nothing else they could do. The link you sent includes “Though it is unlikely, content may be removed from Apple Media Services and become unavailable for further download or access (for instance, because Apple loses its right from the content provider to make it available).” So, Apple has no contact info or customer service line that can help with this situation. I even requested a refund, since the books show in my purchase history. The only thing I can think of is to see if I still have an iPad image from around 2020 on my pc, when that was how you used to back up your purchases. I don’t even know if that’s possible or if I even have one anymore.

I appreciate you sharing with me. The same thing happens with Apple. The books I am missing in iBooks had a change in publisher, and somehow that caused the books to be removed from my library despite being downloaded onto my iPad. Amazon is currently is doing a better job of keeping purchased content from being pulled in Kindle than Apple is for iBooks. There is no one to contact or complain to at Apple to rectify the problem, while Amazon still has some semblance of customer service. The Apple Support engineers tried to regrant my access to the books, but Apple blocked that option. I have 3,600 books purchased from Apple. I am moving future purchases to kindle. It’s a frustrating situation.
