Siri fails to control Schlage Encode Plus when iPhone locked

I have a schlage encode plus lock that I've connected with

apple home app it works as expected locking and unlocking. It works with Siri

commands. However, if my iPhone is locked I get an error “you need to unlock

your iPhone first” and won't issue the command. Siri is set to allow access

when locked. I've already talked to apple support and schlage support and it

seems like nothing is to be done. Is anyone trying to solve this?
