Keynote equation mode: Workaround for asterisk operator

Asking this question to revive previous questions that have left users frustrated about equation mode for certain operators, like the asterisk operator.

I ran into the exact same issue as described here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8438041

The thread was closed without any real resolution. I often use keynote for my academic presentations, and I often use convolution operators, so this has been a real annoying issue.

Solution: Issue seems to be that Apple really really intends the asterisk to be a different symbol than the convolution operator. Thankfully, the UTF version of the symbol works just fine!

Simply replace $f \ast g$ or $f * g$ with $f \,\text{∗}\, g$. Pressing cmd + shift + space and searching for asterisk will help you find the centered symbol.

Adding this because the previous post is locked, and hence users ripping their hair out can actually find a workaround, and can continue using keynote.
