Why are emergency alerts so loud?

I have an iPhone SE 2nd edition with the latest iOS... I just received one of those emergency alert things... It is so freakin' loud it could give someone, especially an elderly person, a heart attack and there is no way to turn it off.

What can be done on my phone so I don't have a heart attack?

On the newer iPhones, those alerts can be turned off, why can't Apple add that feature to older iPhones?

It is my understanding that Canada doesn't allow opting out of the alerts.

You are correct. I just did some research and it appears RCMP alerts are mandatory, and Apple doesn't have the authority to disable them. Hence why the author of this thread seems to believe erroneously that some phone models permit this. It's not the model of iPhone. It's the source of the alert.
I wonder how many people have had a heart attack because of this? I could be next.

Probably zero. But instead of continuing a discussion which has nothing to do with iPhone or for that matter any smart phone. You should let your governmental authorities know your thoughts. Apple can't change how required by law emergency notifications are handled.

You can turn off those emergency notification in settings, would imagine is loud because is an emergency notification, to warn people, like an emergency responder turning on their siren.

it seems to me, that everyone is not reading my full question...

I think we do understand, but you referenced RCMP alerts, which according to what we can find out are NOT permitted to be disabled. Regardless, as others have said, this is a user to user only forum. We are not associated in any way with Apple, nor the Canadian Government. We can't answer why questions for either Apple nor your government.

Just a guess.......the alerts might be loud because it is an emergency and you might be in the other end of house or outside.....or at a noisy restaurant, etc.......when the notification is issued

So why was the ability to turn if off in newer iPhones but not for ones that were a few years old.

Other people in a noisy restaurant may not like it, and what if 25 plus phones went off at the same time?

I've been at noisy restaurant when a number of iPhones went off. It gets your attention.

As to your "why" question.....only Apple can answer a "why" question. As users....like you....we have no idea why Apple does what they do.

As we pointed out....our response was a guess......just a guess.

If you want to see a change from Apple......tell them about it using the link below. When they see that it is you that has provided the feedback......they might act immediately.

How many phone doesn't matter, you're being notified of an emergency.

The hardware and firmware required to support the feature(s) you’re inquiring about, are not possible to update on your current iPhone model. If this is an essential feature, please consider upgrading your device to a newer device.

There are many new features my wife’s Lexus and my GMC Yukon Denali XL don’t support. This is the reality of the 21st century, technology moves at a fast pace and older devices may not be compatible.
