Safari tabs for recent websites not staying visible

When using Safari how do you keep all the recent websites you visited tabs visible and ready to go back to it seems like whatever I look at a new page the old tab is gone I never can go back to it. Like on Google if I don't close the pages, I go to another webpage the other sites I visited stayup above as visible tabs and I can go back to them.
