Does Apple change the sampling rate on the gps to manage power comsumtion?

whenever I slow down my mode of transportation the vehicle location display lags actual position,. It has been suggested that in order to save power, apple reduces the gps sample time, thereby affecting the position location. Is there a setting that I can adjust when I want to improve gps accuracy?

iPad, iPadOS 26

If you are using CarPlay and your vehicle has an integrated GPS, then Maps will be using GPS data provided by your vehicle.

If you are not using CarPlay, then your iPhone is trying to receive weak GPS signals inside a metal box that is weakening them further. GPS data is greatly affected by the number of satellites that your device can "see."

In either case, your iPhone is using accelerometer data to augment GPS data. When you slow down, there is less data. There are no settings you can adjust.

I’ve never heard anything about that, but you can contact Apple support and ask. Use the link at the top or bottom of this page. I would doubt it, however, as receiving satellites or Wi-Fi uses practically no energy.

I’m not sure what you mean by slowing down your mode of transportation, however. Do you drive slower? Are you taking a slow bus?
