New AirPods with ANC have robotic sounds during calls

I was recently gifted AirPod 4’s with ANC for Christmas. Right out of the box they would have some sort of robotic sounds during calls, more specifically, the person on the other end speaking would sound robotic. At times while I was speaking, they would tell me the same. I returned these 3 days later to get a new set thinking the first were defective and I’m having the same issues with the seconds set. I’d like to have my business calls on them while doing other things but it’s really unprofessional and I’m tired of apologizing all the time. I’m an avid Apple user and have had AirPods in the past and have never had this type of issue. Any help on how to fix this would be absolutely amazing.
