Animate paragraphs in custom title using unit size

In fcpx:

How to use the custom effect regarding unit size?

I've added Titles -> Custom, to the timeline.

I've filled it with two paragraphs of texts which I want to appear one at a time.

When I choose unit size I have to choose Custom, because the others do not cover the whole paragraph, but how do I make it work on the paragraphs? To be clear, the text consists of two paragraphs, I want the first paragraph to appear earlier than the other.

Do you mean the Custom template form the Build In/Out collection? I could never make that work to my satisfaction. It'd be faster to just put two separate text templates, one for each paragraph, and keyframe the opacity, etc. I don't think that template will work with individual paragraphs. I never could get it to do that.

For that particular Title template, the Custom menu item for the Unit Size **as well as** In Speed and Out Speed options are left in those menus ***out of laziness***! Those are how the default menus appear in Motion and the whole menus were published to FCP as is. In Motion, when Custom is selected from these menus, other options appear that do not appear in Final Cut when selected — so basically, they do nothing.

BenB's suggestion is the most practical method of dealing with what you want to be able to do even IF you had access to the Custom controls that are available in Motion!
