Logic Pro 12: Audio/MIDI sync errors & crashes at 96 kHz

Hello,

I’m encountering repeated freezes and crashes in Logic Pro 12 related to Audio/MIDI synchronization when working at 96 kHz.

Description of the issue:

While working in a project set to 96,000 Hz, Logic Pro freezes during playback or recording.

The UI and MIDI stop responding (meters frozen, MIDI instruments unresponsive), while audio continues to play. Eventually, Logic crashes or must be force-quit.

Before or during the issue, Logic displays the following error message:

“Audio and MIDI synchronization error. Sample rate around 95,000–96,000 Hz detected.”

The detected value is not stable or exact (not 96,000 Hz), which suggests a clock or CoreAudio synchronization issue.

Important details:

  • My sessions are intentionally set to 96 kHz
  • The issue is not project-specific
  • It happens during normal playback or recording
  • The problem existed before updating macOS and still happens after

System:

  • MacBook Pro 14” M2 Pro (32 GB RAM)
  • macOS Tahoe 26.2
  • Logic Pro 12
  • Thunderbolt audio interfaces (UAD Apollo)

Behavior:

  • Audio continues playing
  • UI and MIDI freeze
  • Logic eventually crashes (EXC_BAD_ACCESS)

This appears to be a CoreAudio / clock synchronization problem where Logic receives an unstable or incorrect sample rate value close to 96 kHz.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues in 96 kHz sessions with Logic Pro 12?

Any workaround or official acknowledgment from Apple?

Thanks.

Hi everyone,

I’m really struggling with Logic Pro crashes lately, and I’m hoping someone has seen something similar or can offer advice. Here’s the full context:

- Crashes happen in **projects at 96 kHz**, even with minimal setups (for example, 1 audio track + 1 Omnisphere track).

- I use **Omnisphere in stack mode**, with **CC67 pedal** to trigger layer ON/OFF (activating 2 layers). Even without playing, pressing the pedal spikes CPU to ~75%, which often leads to crashes.

- I’m on a **Mac with only official plugins installed**, no third-party or pirated plugins.

- My audio interface is **one Apollo**, connected via **USB-C through a Razer dock**. This setup has worked flawlessly for years.

- Audio buffer in Logic for the Apollo is **256 samples (~3ms latency)**, fine for recording.

- Crashes occur inconsistently: sometimes I can work without issues, other times **Logic crashes repeatedly**, even on tiny projects with very few tracks.

- MIDI devices: Yamaha P525 connected via USB-C to the dock. I’ve tried disconnecting/reconnecting MIDI devices, but it doesn’t seem to be the root cause.

- This is seriously affecting my workflow and artistic production, as I can’t rely on Logic to stay stable anymore.

It seems like the crashes are triggered by **Omnisphere layer switching at high sample rates**, rather than general MIDI polling or plugin corruption.

Has anyone encountered similar behavior with Omnisphere at 96 kHz or with CC67 layer triggers? Any suggestions to stabilize Logic without dropping my sample rate to 48 kHz would be very appreciated!
