Logic Pro 12.0.1: Instruments missing after update!

I just updated to Logic Pro 12.0.1 for Mac. But now a lot of the instruments/presets available for selection in the Library for MIDI tracks are gone. The MIDI track is correctly selected and the Library Focus triangle is correctly placed on the Settings button on the Channel Strip.

What I can't find:

Where is the Acoustic Guitar Harmonics instrument?

Where is the Piano and String Ensemble instrument?

Where is the Pizzicato Ensemble instrument?

Where is the Church Door Organ instrument?

Where is the Space Keys instrument?

Where is the Neverending Riser instrument?

Where is the Antarctic Sun instrument?

Where is the Rock Harpsichord instrument?

Where is the Almost Harpsichord instrument?

Where is the Old Robot Factory instrument?

Where is the Massive Bells instrument?

It sounds like the files that you're looking for are .patch files that show in the Library.

Basically, you need to copy the missing .patch files from LP11 Package Contents folder into the Patches folder within the Logic Pro Library.bundle Package Contents folder.

I have been successful of moving .patch files into the .bundle and they work! Just a workaround for the necessary patches.

From Logic Pro 11 Package Contents:

To Logic Pro Library.bundle Package Contents:

Here's what I did:

  1. Created a folder named LP12, moved the new app into the folder. (I zipped and copied to another folder on an ext drive just in case.)
  2. Using Time Machine, I restored LP11 back to Applications. I never opened the app. (I had to use this method since I didn't properly backup the LP 11 app as I should have.)
  3. Right-clicking the LP 11 app, I opened Show Package Contents.
  4. Copied over the entire contents (2.49GB) to its own folder on an external drive for backup.
  5. Moved the LP11 to the Trash and placed the LP12 back into the Applications folder and deleted the LP12 folder.
  6. Right-click Logic Pro Library.bundle and Show Package Contents. Went to Patches/Audio/Effects/Reverb
  7. New Finder window and went to my backed up LP11 Contents/Resources/Patches/Audio/Effects/Reverb and copied over Darker Tone Large Garage.patch and pasted into the Reverb folder in the .bundle
  8. Opened LP12, went to the folder and viola! it was there and it worked.

Of course, it would take a long time to go through all of the missing patches. I would rather Apple take care of what's not fixed but this is a workaround if you're on a time crunch. Just use Search to find the ones you need.

Good luck!
