Logic 12.0.1 not recording software instrument track

Problem recording in Logic 12.0.1 - Opened Logic and created software instrument track using Kontact 8. Sounds great, level meters are pumping, record is enabled. I hit record, the playhead moves, but the track does not light up, and no recording is made! 🤷🏼‍♂️
