iPad Safari tabs close unexpectedly

On my iPad, Safari is closing tabs out of nowhere. I’ve set up Safari in Settings to only allow tabs to be closed manually, but it appears that Safari has a mind of its own now? I have well over 150GB available so this isn’t a memory issue.
