Since I downloaded the latest iPhone update, whenever I get a notification while listening to programming, the program stops and does not automatically resume. How do I fix this?

While I'm, for example, streaming music on my iPhone or iPad with iOS/iPad OS 26.2.1, the volume is momentarily reduced so the notification sound comes through, but the music is never interrupted. Same if I'm watching a YouTube video or something via Facebook or Instagram. So, it's not clear what programming you're using?
But to answer your question, when you are in whatever programming you're watching or listening to, use a Do Not Disturb Focus and you won't be bothered by notifications for those times you don't want to be bothered.

What kind of "programing"? I haven't observed that behavior using the native podcasts app, the Libby app. the NPR One app, the books app... I'm sure I'm forgetting one, but those are the most frequent audio apps I use aside from the native music app.
