MacBook Pro: macOS Catalina update prompt and upgrade?

I just turned on my MacBook Pro running MacOS Catalina10.15.7 . I was surprised to see a memo that asked me if I wanted to restart and install these updates or try tonight?

What can I expect with the update? I don't use this computer too often, and am happy with the current OS. Should I upgrade?

Apple released a security update for macOS Catalina a few days ago. That's probably what it is. It would be the 2026-001 Catalina update a/k/a Catalina 15.7.8.

The update includes new security certificate(s) for iMessages, FaceTime and other services. It is unusual for Apple to issue an update for a version of macOS as old as Catalina, so they obviously consider it essential.
