Connecting wireless / wired keyboard and mouse

Can I connect wireless / wired mouse and keyboard of some another brands like HP , Dell to my MacBook Air M4 ? I just wanted to ask whether it will have negative effect on my MacBook or not . Or should I use Apple's mouse and keyboard ? . And one more thing, out of wireless and wired which one would be better ( my daily usage is very minimal as I am a student ) ? Please suggest me .

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 26.2

You can, though I have seen a few cases where you may have to do additional configuration with non-Apple keyboards if you need to use advanced features on the keyboard (exotic fonts, etc.)

On desktop computers there are, or were, times when you needed an Apple brand keyboard for special startup, but you have a notebook so that shouldn't be an issue.

As for wired or wireless it is up to you. I am old-fashioned and prefer a wired keyboard and mouse. No fussing with having to charge things and turning them on and off. However, I am using a desktop and I just leave everything plugged in all the time which you may not want to do.
