I quite like iOS 26. I think Liquid Glass looks great. But not everyone shares my view. And there will be changes to a number of things, which you'll likely adjust to over time. More importantly, if you want the latest security patches, then you should by all means update to the current iOS 26.2.1.

Updating to iOS 26 – or possibly to iOS 27, when it comes out – is the only way to get the patch to let iMessages and FaceTime keep working after January 2027.

There is an iOS 18.7.4 with the fix – but Apple is only letting the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max have it. For anybody whose iPhone is compatible with iOS 26, the last version of iOS 18 you could install before Apple pulled the plug was iOS 18.7.2.
