Apple Passwords deleted one on my entries with a two-factor code set up
Apple Passwords suddenly deleted one of my saved entries that had a two-factor authentication code attached to it. It isn’t in the “Deleted” section either.
First, I added my WordPress account with my email and password, then set up a second-factor authentication code. Later, I created a passkey on the website, which the Passwords app saved as a separate entry (something it often does). To reduce the confusion of having multiple entries in the Passwords app, I decided to copy the setup code, username/email, and password into the entry that had the passkey.
While I was doing this, I believe after adding my username/email to the passkey entry, the original entry with the second-factor code disappeared.
Luckily I saved my backup codes somewhere else too, which allowed me to recover my account. Otherwise, I would have been locked out.
I’d like to understand how this happened so I can prevent it in the future. I haven’t been able to reproduce the issue. This seems like a serious flaw, since the app can apparently delete critical login information without warning and lock users out of their accounts.
Also I believe this happened in the past as well, but I thought it was my fault. Might still have been, so let me know how I can prevent it from happening again.
