Should I use a core patch for macOS on my 2017 iMac?

Hi I have a 2017 iMac and Ventura is the last OS I can put on it. I’ve heard a lot of people are using a thing called core patch to get around this and they can download the latest OS onto their old Mac is this a thing that is not good for your iMac? Or is it a good thing? I have seen it on the Internet to download, but I’m quite happy with the way my computer is any thoughts

iMac 21.5″ 4K, macOS 13.7

You are better off using the machine with Ventura, or until you can save up enough money and purchase a new or Refurbished computer directly from Apple

Such is the riddle of our age.

So many people are disappointed with, and having problems with, the latest version of the operating system. It's ridiculed in social media. Those of us who normally scoff at such nonsense have nothing to say this time.

And the question is: "Should I hack up my rock-solid machine running the last decent, but still modern, version of macOS so I can get in on some of this?"

Although Ventura is no longer one of the "most recent three" – and no longer receives the latest versions of Safari – it is still enough to run current versions of

  • The Firefox Web browser and most other major third-party browsers (Brave, Opera, Chrome, Microsoft Edge)
  • The LibreOffice office suite
  • The parts of Affinity Studio that are "free with registration." (For the paid AI "subscription" features, you need both Ventura or later, and an Apple-Silicon-based Mac.)
  • The GNU Image Processing Program (GIMP)
  • The backup utilities Carbon Copy Cloner and SuperDuper!
