iPhone alarm volume lowers with system volume

How to fix alarm volume turning itself down when I lower system volume?

At night, I turn on the Background Sounds feature to listen to white noise. I lower my system volume pretty low to keep it quiet. Sometimes this will also lower my alarm/ringtone volume, so I won’t hear my alarm go off in the morning. This has happened multiple times for no reason. I have “Change with buttons” toggled off in Ringtone & Alerts settings.

I used to have an iPhone 12 and it didn’t have this problem.

Once again, I am absolutely aware there should be no reason my ringer volume is lowering itself when I lower my phone volume. A thing is happening that is not supposed to be happening.

Yes, it's exactly what is supposed to happen. There is no separate volume for ringer.

The only way to adjust the alarm volume separately is to use Sleep Tracking and set up an alarm that way.

There is no such thing as system volume and it is relevant, thank you. The slider in sounds & Haptics settings is for Ringtone and Alerts including the native alarm, the subject of your question, it does not affect media.

You did not read the article out of hubris, presumably, but it is the culmination of years of answering questions for people who do not fully understand how iphone volumes work.

You are correct that it absolutely SHOULD not affect media and that is precisely why I made this post. Because I turn my ringer volume all the way up, and I turn my “native volume” all the way down just loud enough to hear the background sounds feature, and my ringer volume will randomly align itself with the native volume and lower for no reason. As described in my post. That is the problem.

There is no Native volume either

  • Ringer Volume is adjusted by slider (in my screen shot) OR by buttons if turned on. It includes notifications and ios alarm.

All other volumes are SEPARATELY adjusted by buttons only in situ. They are

  • Call volume during call
  • Media on speakers while playing
  • Media on bluetooth whikr connected
  • Siri responses
  • Apple Map navigation voice while speaking
  • Google Maps voice while speaking

None of these can be adjusted by a system or native adjustment

So are you interested at all in explaining to me why, despite having “change with buttons” toggled off (as in the button is grey and on the left indicating it has not been turned on) under Ringtone and Alerts in my settings (which is an app on my iPhone), my ringer (as in the VOLUME on my phone that is supposed to control alarms, ringtones, and notifications) will randomly adjust itself (as in it will turn down or up) to match this volume, the volume pictured, the volume that is circled in the color red with red arrows, the volume that plays the background sounds that I turn on, the volume that once again is pictured?

Or are you just here to argue over volume semantics?

You started inventing features even when I gave you a concensus of terms we could both use. In the thread and my article.

Maybe set your forum default sort order to "Oldest" in your user preferences to follow the thread as it was posted. You may miss good stuff from IrisSeabright

I am done here.
