Separate integrated Yahoo and Optimum email accounts in Mail

Separating email accounts... About a year or so ago I had two separate email accounts. One with Yahoo and an entirely separate account with Optimum They each had to be accessed separately. Being the computer idiot that I am, I have no clue whatsoever how they ended on the same"Mail" page. And it seems they' have 'integrated' to some extent somehow. I see the name associated with the Yahoo email account on the emails that I receive through my Optimum account. Anyway, how do I restore both accounts back to each being entirely separate and autonomous?

What you are describing is simply Mail displaying your messages together as a "unified" Inbox despite the accounts being separate. First, in Mail, click the "View" menu and then "Show Sidebar". In the sidebar, you should see each of your separate accounts listed at the bottom. To reveal the mailboxes of each account, hover the mouse pointer over one of the account names and it will reveal a ">" icon to the right. Click that ">" icon and it will reveal the mailboxes within that account. You can then click on the Inbox for a single account to see its contents alone.

I have no idea why Apple chose to hide the reveal/collapse icons unless the cursor is over them. Once you know that those controls are there, you can expand or collapse the sidebar sections to meet your account and mailbox display preferences.
