How do I disable Liquid Glass and improve readability on iPad with iPadOS 26?

The IOS 26 liquid glass -- even when minimized per instructions - is extremely difficult on my eyes - it makes reading difficult, and the entire experience on my ipad much less comfortable and useful.

It also STICKS - this blue glass covering stalls the entire operations -- particularly in web applications. I have to shut the whole thing down to get away from that awful blue glaze.

Liquid Glass:

There are at least two settings you can change to reduce the liquid glass effects:

Settings ≥ Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Reduce Transparency > ON

Settings > Accessibility > Motion > Reduce Motion > ON

If you have updated to at least iOS 26.1 (not to be confused with 26.0.1)

there is additional relief available, but it is not obvious:

Settings > Display & Brightness > Liquid Glass.

Here, you'll find two options: Clear and Tinted.

'Tinted' further reduces the translucency of the glass effect, making it not very glass-like any more.

If the TIME display is the source of your frustration, that is addressed separately.

Thank you for responding with your concerns, margareto1942.

According to Apple:

After a software update is installed for iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, watchOS, and visionOS, it cannot be downgraded to the previous version.

What you can do about this:

Open Settings ➢ Accessibility ➢ Display & Text Size, then toggle Reduce Transparency = on.

Also in Settings ➢ Accessibility ➢ Motion, then toggle Reduce Motion = on.

Also in Settings ➢ Display & Brightness ➢ Liquid Glass ➢ Tinted.

When you create a custom iPhone Lock Screen, you can → change the look of the clock. ⏰

A very useful user-tip by lobsterghost1 ▶︎ Liquid Glass - Love It Or Hate It - It's Here To Stay is recommended. 👍🏼

In addition, you can provide ⇢ Product Feedback.

If enough requests are made, your feedback might help with future development, like a toggle in the settings (to disable the Liquid Glass effect).

Good luck! 👋🏼😉
