Turn off intermittently connecting Apple Remote?

My dog bite the Apple Remote and now it connects and disconnects all the time. I can still use the device from my iPhone, or even watch, so I can live with that for a while until I buy the Apple TV new generation. My question is if I can turn the old remote off or I need to take it out reach, inside my car in the underground garage?
