It isn't the same product. The description of that as a "1Pcs Thunderbolt 3 To Thunderbolt 2 Adapter Type C Cable USB For Macbook Air Pro" is highly misleading.

The Apple Thunderbolt 3-to-2 adapter is a bi-directional adapter that converts Thunderbolt on the TB3 side to Thunderbolt on the TB2 side (and vice versa). It only knows how to handle Thunderbolt protocol. A USB-C (male) to Mini DisplayPort (female) adapter would have the same physical connectors, but would typically be unidirectional, and would only output DisplayPort (not Thunderbolt) on the Mini DisplayPort side.

Signs that this adapter does not understand Thunderbolt at all:

  • "Product input: USB 3.1 Type C (DP mode)"
  • "This cable is a C-port video output to Mini DisplayPort port cable. So the source must be USB-C"
  • "Compatible with Thunder bolt 3 to Mini deployport. It is only compatible with USB C devices with DP Alt mode."

If you have an old 27" Apple Thunderbolt Display, with a two-headed hydra cable, which requires Thunderbolt input, the product listed on eBay will not work. It will be feeding a Miini DisplayPort signal to a monitor that only accepts Thunderbolt.

If you have a Mini DisplayPort display, like the 27" Apple Cinema Display, then this adapter might work. But in the case, there are plenty of other USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapters and adapter cables that are cheap – and whose descriptions are not as misleading.

I've never had a need other than try one so, but just keep all that jaboff of the URL, as it eases your digital footprint: Use: https://www.ebay.com/itm/136984895841 🙂

Alphanumerics of a URL:

It might be, but by “jibjab”, I’m taking about the pollution of alphanumerics and special characters of a URL contained in a Google Search Queue. It tracks down network traffic and beyond. When I provide a link on these forums, I ALWAYS leave that part of the URL out. There is a tool to convert the data, by the W3.
