As of iOS 26, iPad credit card autofill no longer works; iPhone works fine

iOS2026 auto fill for credit cards suddenly no longer works on iPad

iPad M4, iPadOS2026

iPhone 15 Pro, iOS2026

Settings on iPhone

> Wallet & Apple Pay > AutoFill Cards shows 2 correct credit cards

> Apps > Safari > AutoFill / Credit Cards is set to ON

> Apps > Safari > AutoFill / Saved Credit Cards are identical to the cards in Wallet & Apple Pay

Settings on iPad are identical to the iPhone settings in every case.

Filling in Credit Card data on the iPhone works as expected - the available cards are offered for autofill.

On the iPad, cards are never suggested, and using the contextual AutoFill menu and selecting Credit Cards comes up empty.

These 2 devices have performed extactly the same way for literally years. Can anyone offer any suggestions to what got changed?

Please follow this path on both devices,

iPhone/ipad > Settings > Apple Account (your name at top of list) > Saved to iCloud > see all > passwords and keychain > on > if off please turn on, if on, momentarily disable for a minute or so and then re-enable > restart both devices.

UPDATE: I didn’t mention that I’m using a Magic Keyboard. I tried the vanilla test I mentioned a few minutes ago with the iPad disconnected from the Magic Keyboard. Press and hold in the content area like with the iPhone to get to the autofill area and the menu works.

So I went to a site and added an item to a cart, then progressed to payment. Same problem auto-filling CC info. Detached the Magic Keyboard and everything worked find.

So this is either a Hardware Keyboard bug, or I have some permission set to disallow that use.

I think you mean iOS 26.2 or iOS 26.2.1. iOS 26.3 was just released yesterday.

It certainly looks like you’ve isolated it to a keyboard issue. You can report the bug to Apple via their feedback channel.

Thanks for the suggestion - tried it but no luck.

Also checked Safari extensions to see if anything was different, but again no luck.

As a vanilla sort of test, I started a new mail message on my iPhone, then brought up the contextual menu. Selected AutoFill And then Credit Cards. That triggered a FaceID authentication and then allowed me to insert CC info directly into the mail message. Selecting Contacts from the AutoFill menu brought up Contacts.

Performed the identical test on the iPad and I get the top-level menu (Contact, Passords, Credit Cards, Scan Text) but that’s it — none of the submenus do anything.

It feels like I have a permission somewhere disabled.

Nope - good call; updated to 2026.3, but no joy.

I added something to a shopping cart, then went to check out. Tapping in the credit card field on my iPhone brought up my stored cards as expected. Trying the same thing, same site on my iPad did absolutely nothing. Tried control-clicking to bring up the contextual menu (got it), then selected credit cards and got nothing - no listing of cards, much less the ability to select one of them.

This has got me stumped — there just doesn’t seem to be that many places to tweak this functionality. This definitely went south with the iPadOS2026 update, though. The contextual menu is the new thing, which also appears to be broken for me.

Provided feedback, then went through the Support tree. The service stated that since this isn’t a hardware problem and no other firmware solution is available, well, I’m on my own. I could spend half a day getting to/from the Apple Store, but I don’t see any point.

I’ll have to keep my eyes open for another firmware update I guess. It would be interesting to know if the bug was introduced by the firmware update or if it was 26.2 or 26.1.
