Good external CD/DVD Drive to use with MacBook Pro 16" (2019)

I use, and prefer, Pioneer optical drives. Currently I am using a BDR-XD07S (the current version of it is the BDR-XD08S.) It works flawlessly with my Macs. BTW, if you intend to burn discs, I strongly encourage you to get the associated power adapter for whatever drive you purchase - don't rely on bus power when you are burning discs.

The OWC Mercury Pro optical drive also has an excellent reputation, but it's quite a bit more costly.

I've been very happy with this ASUS drive as a back up to my Apple SuperDrive optical for a few years now.

The fact that it has a disc tray is a plus.

What I Use On my 2018, 2021, and 2023 MacBook Pros: External All-in-One Optical Writer - Verbatim. Even burning Blu-ray on this works like a charm. Got it at a local retailer. When I purchased it, it came with Roxio Burner 5, though that attachment may have been updated since. So, as an adjective, I'd say "great", rather than "good".
