Cannot factory reset iPhone with deactivated Apple ID

When I was logging into my account on an old Iphone to give to my niece I accidently put in the wrong email address, I then went on holiday and forgot about the phone. Now the account has been deactivated and I cant get into it to factory reset the phone so I can sign into the correct account. I have been putting in the right password but it still says that it cannot log me in.

"Deactivated" Apple ID:

If your Apple ID has been deactivated, then it is no longer accessible. However, if you mean that is is locked, then that comes down to waiting the time allowed, or contacting Apple Support. As for changing the Apple Account, then you need to disassociate this from your deactivated Apple Account, and then have your niece log into this in her Apple Account. To get around that, contact Apple Support; you likely need to take this in for a Genius Bar Appointment at your local Apple Store. Being along a valid original proof of purchase. Elsewise, it is useless from here.
