A. Compare the Model Number and the Serial Number:

What Model Name do you see when you enter the Serial number here?: View Coverage - AppleCare & Warranty. If new, any recollection of having H-seams on both sides and bottom sides, when staying up from top to bottom?; if not, then it is, indeed, fake.

B. Finding the Model Using the Serial Number:

This method isn’t all that reliable, as the Serial Number and Model Numbers can be modified on a fake device. Nonetheless, report back the Model Number you see —and DO NOT provide the Serial Number. If it does not match up with the Model Number provided, then it is either a fake pair, or it it an issue with Apple’s device database.
