Logic Pro 12.0.1 consistently crashes on start-up

Logic Pro 12.0.1 consistently crashes on start-up

I can't start Logic Pro in 'normal' mode ever since 12.0.1 -- it crashes almost immediately. I've opened it with the ctrl modifier (and ctrl +shift) and checked all the 3rd party plug-ins and deleted a couple so that they're all verified (bar one that has 'hide' and 'ignore' checked in the plug-in manager's listing) but that didn't make any difference as far as I can see. I've also purged the audio unit cache, done a reset, etc., but still no improvement and now I'm all out of ideas of what to do.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Why it is still possible to install this version on a Intel mac is a big question. Please send a bug report to apple.

Logic Pro:
Logic Pro for Mac requires macOS 15.6 or later and a Mac with Apple silicon• .

There is a discrepancy in the system requirements between the Logic Pro stand alone app and the Creator Studio version.

Per the App Store regarding the stand alone version, the requirement is macOS 15.6 or later with no Apple Silicon requirement. I've had this app, v 12.0, up and running on a 2018 mini since it was released and have not had much trouble with it.

Also per the App Store, the Creator Studio version of Logic Pro does additionally call for a Mac w/ M1 or later chip. I assume this is related to the AI features of the apps in the suite.

I have an M4 Max Mac Studio 48GB Ram. Logic Pro 11.7.x worked great. I have been using logic for countless years before Apple bought it from Emagic. This is without a doubt, the worst update ever to hit the Logic Pro ecosystem. 12 and 12.0.1 both have destabilized my entire system. You can claim it’s all issues with 3rd party apps, but I’m sorry everything was fine with 11.x I have my system settings to not allow updates yet Lo and behold Apple must have changed update permissions to also have to set this in the App Store to block automatic updates for App Store apps. I had no opportunity to back up my Logic 11.x before the update just ran itself. It’s a new computer and my bad… I didn’t get my Time Machine running yet that is my fault 100% but now I have no way to roll back at this time so I am stuck. APPLE…. No PRO app should be able to update on its own ever…..EVER! You also shouldn’t remove downloads of older versions. We are the professionals that rely on these products for a living. Let us decide when and how to install our applications. I am at a complete standstill until someone issues software updates.

Stop wasting resources on adding ridiculous AI player features to a PRO recording application. Save that garbage for Garage Band … for people who don’t have the talent to learn to play an instrument. Fix this update, give us access to roll back installation files, and for god sakes remove automatic updates for all PROFESSIONAL APPLICATIONS!!

Thanks for the link, I guess I am just hopping on top of any soapbox I can find … shout it to the mountain tops till something is done. I can take part of the blame for my shortcomings on my Time Machine for sure but Apple has to hear us and I hope all that have issues join in click the link you provided and share any and all my thoughts on the poor implementation of the update process and broken Logic 12 update.

To all those struggling, I found a "possible" temporary work around that got me through a session. Use at your own risk, I am not a programmer or work for Apple!!!! I don't see how this could negatively affect anyones system but, use at your own risk. Perhaps anyone else here with more in depth knowledge could shine a light on any issues that could arise from this workaround.

For silicon Mac users force Logic to open using Rosetta. You can turn this on/off by fining your Application icon in Applications, Hold down Control and click in the sub menu click get info in the pop up menu put a check in the Open Using Rosetta box. You will get a warning Apple silicon specific features won't work. It will scan plugins again and voila, I could get a song that would crash constantly to run to complete a bounce in place from Logic menu for my drum software multi outputs. Saved as an alternate and closed Logic. I went back to the Pop up menu and uncheck Open Using Rosetta and the song now plays with all plugins and instruments right down to 32 I/O as it used to.

I have a m2 mac mini and have been running the trial version of logic pro for the entire trial period without any issues. a while ago the latest version of logic dropped and my trial period ended. i wanted to buy logic so it uninstalled the trial version and after payment i installed the full version... after trying to open my starting template it instantly crashed! tried opening any of my songs. instant crash. tried removing all plugins. same thing. Even opening a blank, one audio track, new project and saving it, (which somehow magically does work) crashes instantly when trying to reopen it after... this is beyond frustrating. i have no idea what to do.
