Anyone else experiencing problems with Airplay routing on iOS 26.3?
Since the update yesterday I cannot connect to my Homepods frmo control center or shortcuts. It sometimes works directly from the music/podcast app, but most reliably only when opening the speaker in the Home app and starting playback from here.
However, Airplay works fine on iPadOS 26.3 and macOS 26.3. Didn't test tvOS 26.3 yet. All Homepods also have 26.3.
“Good catch and actually that worked - I wonder why it was possible to route Airplay before that update since I use this VPN connection for weeks without any problems so far. This makes iOS usage for me now a bit more unsafe. Sad.”

VPNs Getting in the Way:
Thanks for that. I’ve using these forums for years —and VPNs are an all-too common culprit on reported on these forums. Security Software just gets in the way on an Apple device, and this is a pure example of how and why.

Delete the VPN:
Looking towards the middle-top of your screenshot, I can see that a VPN is turned in. So, delete it, and see if it then works.
