How can I safely open RAR and 7Z files?

My preferred un-archiving tool is the free Keka which was recommended by one of the hosts here. I used to use The Unarchiver but then it was purchased by a company that also distributes some software that is definitely something you do not want on your computer, so I kind of went off installing anything now distributed by that company.

7Z files can be opened by simply double clicking them in Finder. When you do it will create a folder with its contents.

For RAR files you can try the Unarchiver on the Mac App Store.

Nothing unsafe about uncompressing files. The unsafe part comes with the contents. unless you trust the source of these files, be cautious about their contents.
