Hi, I just upgraded my MacBook Air M1 to Tahoe 25.3 and it changed the orientation of my wallpaper and it seems like any picture that I use that is in a similar mode gets changed...... IT didn't happen in the previous version....
Here's the picture in photos .....
and here's what it looks like on the desktop .....
I've just about tried all settings, but it stays like this

That HEIC iPhone (portrait) image is 3024 × 4032
Your MacBook Air Display is (diagonal) 2560-by-1600
In simple terms, the image is tall and your Mac's display is wide.
If it is Imported into your Photos App, check to see if it is in the proper orientation....
If it is sidewise in the Photos App, rotate it and try selecting that rotated image.
Then if it is showing on your desktop wallpaper with blank spaces on each side..
You need to crop out a wider portion of the image to use as wallpaper.

This is clearly a bug. There is no option to maintain orientation. That's a mistake. I had to go back and actually crop any photo I want to use for desktop. No problem at all pre-Tahoe.

I've opened a case with Apple, they agree that it's not a feature......*** The screen shot of the photo in Photos is obviously in portrait mode, so suggesting that I need to rotate it for it to be displayed properly on the desktop is bonkers
I'll post something when I hear from apple that it's been fixed

Any updates on this? I just started using my photo favorites as my background and all my portrait photos show up on the screen in landscape mode...
You and others will need to wait for Tahoe 26.4 and then this "Obvious " issue may or may not be fixed
I can say Tahoe 26.3.1 did not

upgraded to 26.3.1 and no fix .... and nothing from apple yet
I am having the same problem, and so happy to hear it's not just me. This is a HUGE problem. And it looks like there's no fix, right? Need to wait for Apple?

Multiple reports of the same issue help Apple assess the scale of a problem and, to do that, please use this link:
because bug reports get lost here among tens of thousands of new posts daily.
Be sure to include that this happens with images you uploaded if that is the case, not the "canned" Apple pictures.
Update fixed issue, thank goodness! I was getting frustrated with the landscape view
