See if this works.

1. Perform a "Clean Slate" Re-Pairing

This is the most successful fix, as it clears corrupt handshake data between the phone and the BMW.

  • On the BMW: Go to Communication > Manage Mobile Devices. Select your iPhone and select Delete Device.
  • On the iPhone: Go to Settings > General > CarPlay. Tap your BMW and select Forget This Car.
  • On the iPhone: Go to Settings > Bluetooth and Settings > Wi-Fi. "Forget" the BMW in both lists.
  • Restart the iPhone: Power it off and on.
  • Restart iDrive: With the car running, press and hold the volume knob for 30 seconds (or 70 seconds for a deeper reboot) until the screen turns black and restarts.
  • Re-pair: Pair the phone again, ensuring you select "Apple CarPlay" when asked.

2. Check "Limit IP Address Tracking"

A common cause of sudden disconnects in BMWs is the phone trying to manage its IP address while connected to the car's Wi-Fi.

  • Go to Settings > Wi-Fi on your iPhone.
  • Tap the "i" info button next to your BMW's network.
  • Toggle off "Limit IP Address Tracking".

3. Disable VPN

If

you have a VPN active on your iPhone, it can conflict with the Wi-Fi

connection needed for wireless CarPlay. Turn off any VPN in Settings > General > VPN & Device Management.

4. Optimize iPhone Performance

  • Update iOS: Ensure your iPhone 12 Pro Max is on the latest version of iOS, as Apple often releases patches for CarPlay.
  • Reduce Background Apps: Close unnecessary apps running in the background to prevent the phone from overheating and slowing down.
  • Disable "Hey Siri":
  • Sometimes, conflicts between Siri and the BMW assistant cause the
  • system to hang. Temporarily disabling "Hey Siri" can stabilize the
  • connection.

5. Check BMW Software

Ensure your BMW iDrive system is updated. You can check for updates in Settings > General Settings > Remote Software Upgrade in the vehicle.
