iPhone 17 Pro disconnects from wired CarPlay

My iPhone 17Pro still disconnects from Apple Car Play in my car. It is not wireless CarPlay. Car Play is already in my vehicle. My car play worked by connecting the usb cable in the car. It works for my iPhone 14pro but never stays connected for my 17pro. I use an Apple Watch. When troubleshooting, I have disconnected the watch bluetooth connection to my phone. I have disconnected the car bluetooth to my phone. These all need to work in tandem as in the past with other iPhone models. How can I get CarPlay to work by plugging in the cable and NOT disconnecting the bluetooth connections on my phone?

iPhone 17 Pro, iOS 26

I have had an open ticket since December about this same issue. I was asked to see if IOs26.3 would fix it, it did not.

I just got off the phone with an Apple second tier tech about this issue. They are aware that the 17 line has the compatibility problem and that it is an Apple software problem. He stated that he would escalate this to engineering but they are already working to resolve it.

I think the best course of action is to follow all of their trouble shooting including using an Apple cable, trying your 17 in a different vehicle and trying a different series of iPhone in your vehicle if possible. This will determine that it isn’t your car’s problem and that you are helping them isolate to the 17. Let them know that you are aware that it is a known Apple software issue with the 17 series phones. If they don’t offer to escalate to second tier tech support you might request that.

They don’t have a fix now but they know that trading out your phone won’t solve your problem. And document your calls.

Good luck.

Do you have a VPN installed on your iPhone, whether it is used or not? If yes, get rid of it. VPNs cause connectivity issues and are simply not needed on iPhone at all.

Also, iOS 26.3 was released yesterday with many bug fixes. Make sure you have updated your phone to iOS 26.3 as well.
