Face ID is not available on my new iPhone

Hi, I just purchased a new iPhone (brought from the US), but Face ID is not available on my device.

In Settings > Face ID & Passcode, there is no option to set up or reset Face ID.

Could you please help me check if this is a software issue or a hardware issue with the TrueDepth camera?

Thank you.

To put a positive spin on this despite what others are telling you about warranties etc., I would think you could at least have somebody at an Apple Genius Bar take a look at it and tell you what the issue may be, even if they are then unable to do anything about it.

Go to this page to find your nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) or Apple Authorized Distributor (AAD) --> Find Locations

How to make a Genius Bar appointment

1. Go to Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple

2. Go to "Get hardware help".

3. Select your hardware and continue selecting options requiring replacing parts until you see "Bring in for Repair"

4. Sign in with your Apple ID

From what you says in your first post though about not even seeing the settings option, I am wondering if this was truly a "new" iPhone and you instead bought a used one that still had some settings from a previous owner.

I don't think there is a way to check if there is an issue with the TrueDepth camera. If there is an issue it will say so.

This Apple Support article is specific to seeing an ‘issue’ or 'disabled' Face ID alert, and explains what to do when you see that notice or an issue with the TrueDepth camera. --> If an alert says Face ID has an issue on your iPhone or iPad Pro - Apple Support

Unless a software update solves the problem you may need to have Apple take a look at your device. Use this link to set up an appointment —> Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple and this one to get a repair estimate —> iPhone Repair and Service - Apple Support

If you don't see one of the above messages but do have general issues with Face ID not working properly, explore the list in this article of things to try: If Face ID isn't working on your iPhone or iPad Pro - Apple Support

Read this article about times when a passcode may be required despite FaceID or Touch ID is set to be used —> Optic ID, Face ID, Touch ID, passcodes, and passwords - Apple Support

What model iPhone did you purchase and from whom exactly did you buy it?

I bought it from a retail store

What retail store? An Apple Store? Apple iPhone warranty is not international. iPhones sold in the US are not the same model as sold in Vietnam. If there is an issue with the phone requiring the phone to be replaces, it can't be replaced in Vietnam as Apple won't have the same model phone in stock in Vietnam as US models. If there is an issue with the phone, you'll need to bring it back to the US for service or replacement.

It's never a good idea to buy your iPhone in a different country. Any cost savings you may have seen will now quickly be gone. If you can't bring it back yourself, send it to someone you know with a copy of the receipt and ask them to help you.
