iCloud Calendar all-day events default to busy

calendar all day events free/busy - does anyone have a workaround for all day events on iCloud calendar defaulting to busy? My family calendar is iCloud and it is causing all sorts of havoc with my scheduling app (acuity). When they first took away the free/busy option the default was free, now it seems to be busy...
