Check Apple menu > About This Mac.
What does it tell you there?
Yes, it is strange.
Apple's system does not typically accept any current Mac model as qualified to be used as a trade in.
I suspect this serial number error is a hiccup in the trade-in system.
Go here https://checkcoverage.apple.com/products?locale=en_US
and plug in your serial number. What does it tell you about the computer there? This link is unrelated to trade-in offers.
It says it’s a m5 chip. However, when I enter serial number for trade in on Apple Store it says it’s an m4 not an m5 chip. This is very strange.
