hy iOS won’t remove “prone”

iOS has a built‑in system dictionary that:

  • can’t be edited by the user

  • always takes priority over learned words

  • automatically restores certain “real” words even if you try to delete them

So even if someone deletes “prone” from the keyboard dictionary or resets the keyboard settings, iOS still thinks it’s the correct suggestion.

What actually works

There are a few reliable workarounds people use:

1. Create a text replacement

This is the most effective fix.

Go to:

Settings → General → Keyboard → Text Replacement

Add something like:

  • Phrase: prone

  • Shortcut: ppppp (or anything nonsense)

This forces iOS to stop autocorrecting to “prone” because the system now thinks you have defined how that word should behave.

You can also do the reverse:

  • Phrase: the word you want

  • Shortcut: the letters that keep getting changed to “prone”

This overrides autocorrect completely.

2. Reset the keyboard dictionary

Sometimes autocorrect gets “stuck” on a suggestion.

Settings → General → Transfer or Reset → Reset → Reset Keyboard Dictionary

This won’t remove “prone,” but it can reduce how aggressively it appears.

3. Add the word you meant to type

If there’s a specific word iOS keeps replacing with “prone,” typing it a few times and tapping “Add to Dictionary” when it appears can help the keyboard learn your preference.

What won’t work

  • Deleting the word from the dictionary (not possible)

  • Turning off autocorrect (unless you want to lose autocorrect entirely)

  • Expecting iOS to “forget” a built‑in dictionary word
