Find my location not working after iOS 26.3 update

My iPhone is an 16 Pro Max and I have updated to iOS 26.3 and now I don’t show up on any of my families FindMy app. What gives?

I’ve tried so called “solutions” here and from people on YouTube and it hasn’t done anything.

I did notice in the beginning when my wife pointed out I wasn’t showing up that my address didn’t show up in my own FindMy app. After switching some things off and on in the Setup I have since got my address showing back up in the FindMy app. But I still don’t show up on any other family members FindMy.

Update, I have found the problem and it did occur during the update. Even asking ChatGPT revealed that setup configurations can get reset during an update.

Setup

Privacy and Security

Location Services and scroll all the way down

System Services

Scroll down to Share my Location (Mine was turned of by the update)

another switch that could be off and causing a location problem is Networking and Wireless (mine was not off).

so there you have it. Not caused by a VPN, not caused by no internet connection. iOS update switched off Shared Location in System Services. So there, caused by the update. I told you didn’t I?

I had the same problem with the iOS 26.3 update. I tried all the fixes in Google and YouTube. None of them worked nor suggested the “Privacy and Security" ➡️ "Location Sevices" ➡️ scroll to the bottom "System Services” ➡️ “Share My Location” and switch it back on. In fact if you think about it, why is this setting even there if you have already switched it on in SEVERAL other places? Thank you none the less.

Thank you sooo much. My wife and I recently wanted to share each other’s location and I was on the most recent 26.3 update and she wasn’t. Long story short she couldn’t see my location but I could see hers. Tried numerous YouTube vids and followed absolutely every bit of advice to no avail. I got her to update her iOS to latest version and then she couldn’t see my location straight after updating!

So this update switches off share my location. Switching this setting back on on both phones solved the problem.

Thanks again!

A faulty VPN configuration can definitely be the culprit here. Even if the VPN isn’t actively connected, just having a misconfigured or outdated VPN profile can mess with how iCloud and Find My communicate with Apple’s servers.

VPNs sometimes reroute traffic in ways that block location-sharing services, especially if they:

  • Use strict firewalls,
  • Route traffic through non-Apple-friendly regions,
  • Or misconfigure DNS settings that affect Apple’s secure connections.

What you can do:

  • Contact the VPN provider — they may have:
    • A whitelist you can add Apple domains to,
    • Split tunneling options (to allow iCloud/Find My to bypass the VPN),
    • Or tell you if their service is simply incompatible with Find My.

Thank you for posting this solution as I have been struggling for days to sort this. I can confirm that your solution is totally correct as both our phones had 'share my location' turned off by the update and worked perfectly once this was turned back on. Does Apple not test its updates as this is a fairly major security issue to not be able to easily find a lost phone?

To use Find My and Location Services on an iPhone effectively, both your iPhone and the device you're trying to locate must have an active internet connection. These services rely on internet access to share your location with friends and family and to track the locations of devices, people, and items. Without internet connectivity on either end, the sharing and locating features of Find My and Location Services will not function properly.

Find My location issues are not always the fault of the iOS update!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution!

Was/Is your device Jailbroken? If that's the situation, please be informed that attributing the issues to iOS updates may not be accurate.

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.

I’ve seen this problem crop up for a few years with other people’s phones. Usually they’ve don’t something themselves.

In My case, I updated, my phone came back online, I went out to pick up an order for food and when got back everyone was asking if I had turned of Location services. No I didn’t. Everyone had internet access including me. My Findmy app didn’t have my address showing. So it was my phone. It was the update. Whether something got corrupted or whether there’s a bug in the code, IT WAS THE UPDATE. I’m really tired of people blaming me or another user when they haven’t done a **** thing but update. Should I have backed up my phone? This time obviously. But truth be told I stopped backing up because since iOS 6 nothing has ever happened. Nothing. Until now. My bet is there’s a bug in the code. ****, there’s bugs in every official release else they wouldn’t have to release a number of fixes. Apple is beginning to run into Microsoft territory if they don’t smarten up. No matter. I’ll dump my photo library and back load 26.2 or something. Good evening

You are very welcome! Happy to help.

For what it’s worth, I am not affiliated with Apple in any way except for the purchase of some of their products.

Yes you would think Apple would have properly tested the update rather than leave people out in the cold that actually need to use their location services. I wonder if this glitch denies Emergency Services from locating you when you call 911?

I sure hope not. Let’s hope Apple gets the message.

I am still having this issue, was there any updates or resolutions besides what’s mentioned in this chat?

I have tried:

-restarting the phone

-checking any and all setting related solutions (nothing was even turned off after this update but the issue started right after installation)

-asked family and friends to delete and re add in Find My (while also doing the same in my app)

Do I just have to wait until the next patch?
