Your iPad will either be an older model that features an Apple Lightning connector (visually the mating male connector will resemble a flat blade - with a row of gold connectors on both sides of the blade) - or recent models of iPad will have a USB-C Connector.
Similarly, an Apple Power Adapter will either be an older model, typically 10/12W with a USB Type-A (rectangular) connector - or, if a recent model, will have a USB-C connection*
(*) If both the iPad and Power Adapter have the same type of connection, this will be USB-C.

Per the MacTracker data base (free in the Apple App stores), a 9th Gen iPad has there ports:
Yours uses its Lightning port for charging and data backups.
If your charger "brick" came with the computer, it needs this cable:
If you have a newer charger block, you may need this one:
USB-C to Lightning Cable (1 m)
See which port on the charger matches the port pictures LotusPilot posted.
My charging cable to my iPad (9th generation) has disintegrated at the iPad connection end. It’s usb at charger end but I can’t figure out the connection end. Thank yu
