iPhone asking for Comcast email IMAP password
My iPhone will not open my Comcast email. It is asking for a password for the IMAP account. I have no idea what that is or how to find it.

Did you recently change your Comcast Password?
The Password is the same one you use to access your Comcast account when you sign into their website. If you have changed that password, you also need to update it in Mail so you can continue to send/receive emails. If you don't know the password you use for your Comcast account, then when you attempt to sign in on their website there is an option for a Forgot Password.

Once you know the correct password you use for Comcast, go to Settings > Mail > Accounts, and choose your Comcast account. You will see a section called "Incoming Mail Server" and you will enter the password in the field there. For sending emails, it is the same Comcast password, but there is also another section where that one is stored. Tap SMTP, and then the Primary Server you see on top, and you should then see where to enter the Password for the Outgoing Mail Server. Make sure to Save after entering the Password, otherwise if you just tap the Back/Cancel button the password will not be saved.
Another thing you can do is just delete the email account and add it again using the correct Password for Comcast. You would choose the Other option when adding the type of email, then enter the address and password. All the other settings will be filled in Automatically.
Another reason why you may not be able to access your Comcast email even with the correct password, is because they have a security setting that restricts access to only Web Mail on their website. You can change that by going to their Web Mail Settings and under Security there is a checkbox called Third Party Access Security that must be checked. Information about verifying that is available here:

Two Comcast/Xfinity accounts in Apple Mail on iPhone began looping a password prompt on April 18, 2026 around 7:30 PM ET. The same accounts still worked in Xfinity webmail and in Outlook on Windows, and other non-Comcast accounts on the iPhone were unaffected. Updating the iPhone from iOS 26.3.1 (a) to iOS 26.4.1 resolved the issue without changing passwords or re-adding the accounts.
Do you have a password for Comcast webmail? if so, that is very likely the same password.
If the account is still causing s problem, remove the mail account and then re-add it.
Removing and re-adding the account t will not affect the mail stored on the server, or the mail stored on the iPhone.

Remove the email account, and re-add it. Use the same user and password you use for accessing webmail.

UPDATE: after working all night, the bad behavior kicked back in. I tried a new approach. I normally keep both the local wifi and the cellular connections open. I tried turning off one and then flipping. I had success when I turned off wifi and just used the cellular connection. I plan to test the wifi connection from time to time to see if Xfinity gets their act together.
