VLC app on iPhone not displaying all transferred video files

I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max, iOS 17.5.1. Using a Windows 10 Professional 64-bit laptop to sync the phone and transfer files.

When transferring videos to watch via the VLC app (v 3.7.1) they do not all appear in the VLC folder. If I look in the iOS Files app they are there. If I look in the VLC Video tab (where you can choose files for a playlist) many are missing. If I look under the VLC Browse tab there some listed there but I cannot add them to a playlist I can only let them play.

When I started sharing files in this manner last fall I did not have this issue, everything uploaded to the phone and I could add them to playlists. Now it seems to get worse (fewer files shared) every time I swap out files for new files.

These are all video files (mp4; m4v, avi, …).
