Which 2016 Mac notebook are you talking about?

The SSD on the MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2016) is soldered in and not upgradable. For a 2016 MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, Other World Computing may have upgrade kits. Check the page for your specific model.

Other World Computing – Upgrade the internal storage of your Mac

Note: if you ever plan to upgrade to Monterey, you should do that while the Apple factory SSD is still installed. The Monterey installer will try to update your Mac's firmware, if it thinks an update is needed. The update will fail if you have a third-party SSD installed, and it will cause the entire Monterey installation to fail. Once you successfully install Monterey. somewhere, and the firmware is updated, you can install a third-party SSD and then install copies of Monterey on it to your heart's content.
