How do I update my iPhone 7 to iOS 17?

If you have an iPhone 7, you cannot install iOS 17, and you cannot install the current version of the YouTube app (which requires iOS 16.0 or later).

For the iPhone 7, iOS 15 is the end of the line. Google has chosen not to support iOS 15.0, and in effect Google is saying that you must get a newer phone if you want to use their app.

You could try accessing the YouTube Web site through Safari. Might work well, might not, but it wouldn't cost anything to try.

You replied to a post from February 15th where at that time it was iOS 15.8.6 that was the last update available for the iPhone 7 and it could not be updated further. The minor point update in March makes no difference as far as being able to run software using iOS 17 as the OP was intending to do.

The iPhone 7 is not compatible with iOS 16, 17, 18 or 26.

You aren't writing Apple Team. This is a user to user only forum. But even if you were writing Apple, the answer is the same as it is for anyone who owns a phone which is not capable of being updated to iOS 17. And that answer is you cannot. If you need a higher iOS version than your phone can support, then you need a newer or new iPhone. There's no way around that.

Did you read the answers that have already been posted?

Your iPhone 7 is not even compatible with iOS 16, so it will never run iOS 17, 18 or 26.

You need a new phone.

If you want something later than iOS 15, this will require a "forklift upgrade", i.e., buying a new iPhone. Apple no longer signs iOS 17, but all of the new and Certified Refurbished phones that Apple sells as of today can run iOS 26 and will be compatible with iOS 27. (Although the regular 15 and 15 Plus do not support Apple Intelligence.)
