How do I log out of an old Apple ID and switch to a new one on an unused iPad Air?

Rookie move. I changed my Apple ID, and have an iPad air that I haven't used in a while. When I login, it had my old Apple ID and asks for a password. This is where the problem begins.

  1. The password won't take, since the user ID is no longer valid
  2. I can attempt to change to the new user ID by adding it in the "forgot password" section, but it just resets my existing password, not the old one.
  3. Its no longer listed in "my devices", since it's been about a 1.5 years since I used it last.

Main goal is to use this for watcing shows, but I can't get new stream apps w/ out the kicking it out of the old Apple ID.

Any ideas here?

Thanks in advance.

The password won't take, since the user ID is no longer valid

The only time I have seen where an Apple Account is not valid is when it has either been deleted by the user or deactivated by the user using one of the methods below.

If that was the case, then your only option is the Activation Lock removal request. You will need to provide proof of ownership and in most cases as seen here that is the original purchase receipt from Apple or Authorized Apple Seller.

If you are seeing a different message, such as the Apple Account is Locked or Disabled, then the instructions are here to proceed in gaining access to the account. It may be the case you need to reset the Password on the old Apple Account.

I can attempt to change to the new user ID by adding it in the "forgot password" section, but it just resets my existing password, not the old one.

You will need to change the password on the old Apple Account in order to remove it from the device and don't remember what the Password is. This would not be possible though if the account is saying it is not valid or previously Deleted/Deactivated.

If you are unable to sign out of the Apple Account and not able to reset the Password, then you will need to proceed with the Activation Lock Removal Request.

It is no longer listed in "my devices", since it's been about a 1.5 years since I used it last.

It would not be listed in your "my devices" when you are using a different Apple Account. That has nothing to do with it being 1.5 years, it is just because you don't have access to the Apple Account that is linked to the device. Gaining access would be done by resetting the password to that account if possible, and if not the account can be removed from the device using the Activation Lock Removal Request.

Login where? what exactly are you doing to log in? With iPads you usually just turn it on and enter your passcode. KIt doe snot requets your Apple ID at that point Just rthe screen unlock passcode. Did you maybe resote the iPAd and its o Acrtivation lock?

This is where the problem begins.
The password won't take, since the user ID is no longer valid

Why is it no longer valid? did you have it deleted by Apple? what exactly happened to thta Apple ID?

2. I can attempt to change to the new user ID by adding it in the "forgot password" section, but it just resets my existing password, not the old one.

This does not realy make sense. The forgot Passqword option is to reset th e password for whatever Apple account you type in prior to clicking on iforgot, you cannot simply change the aple acount to a different one and expect it to change the passwordf for another Apple Account.

3. Its no longer listed in "my devices", since it's been about a 1.5 years since I used it last.

If you are using a new Apple ID, it has no connection to the old one so it won;t show any devices tied to the Old Apple ID on Find My. It has nothing to do with te amout of time since you last used it.

Unless the iPad is on Activation Lock, you should just be able to sign out of the account fort Media & Purchases in Settings ➜ Account without entering a password.

It seems like you are assumign a ton of stuff without any basis abnd have not actuall explained what you did.

Did you create a new apple Account? Or did you simply update the primary email address for the account?

Is the iPad currently accessible or in Activation Lock?

Are you trying to sign out if icloud or the Media & Purchases account used for the app Store?

Please clarift exactly what you did, and wht you are trying to do now and someone may be able to advise.
