Systems won't accept password when scheduling an update

Have a look at Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support and note line 4 -->

Before installation begins, you’re asked to enter your administrator password. It's the password you use to log in to your Mac. Forgot your password?

Presumably you’re referring to a macOS update. You are being asked for your Mac login password, not your Apple Account password.
