Shortcuts for screen recording specifically

I cannot understand how we have Cmd + Shift + 5 for opening the shortcut tool but it seems impossible to have a flow to have a shortcut specifically for the recording portion. It should be trivial for us to assign a shortcut which allows us to target the specific tools yet this isn't possible it seems.

Shortcut ability for the following should be amazing

  • Screenshot region
  • Screenshot window
  • Screenshot screen
  • Screen record region
  • Screen record window
  • Screen record screen

I get that the whole tool bar is good for a lot of users but I need to screen cap and record pretty often and not having the ability to bind recording actions to shortcuts is unbecoming to Apple imo.

In case you aren't aware:

  • Screenshot region is Command-Shift-4 (click and drag the crosshair cursor that appears); you can also use Command-Shift-5 to get an adjustable selection rectangle
  • Screenshot window is Command-Shift-4 then press the Space bar, the click the mouse/trackpad
  • Screenshot screen is Command-Shift-3, which does the whole screen

For capture vs. record, it defaults to the last option used.

Surely there is third party app that would fill the void...

see the app store—search screen recording and see what there.
