Apple Pencil won't connect to iPad even when wired after update 26.3. iPad doesn't register device at all

apple pencil gen 1 not connecting after 26.3 update (gen 10 ipad)

I've already tried troubleshooting (bluetooth off and on, power off power on, hard reset, apple pencil is fully charged, etc), it worked perfectly before the update and even when the apple pencil is directly wired to the ipad it doesnt recognize it as a device at all and won't conenct

iPad, iPadOS 26

How are you connecting the Pencil to the iPad? THe iPad 10th Generation has a USB-C port while the pnecil has a lightning connector under the rear cap. You need a special adapter. The regular adapter that used to come with the First Gen Apple Pencil does not work for this.

Make sure you are using the correct adapter.

If you go to Settings ➜ Bluetooth and the Pencil is there but says "not connected", tap on (i) icon and then on Forget Device to remove it. And see if it will pair again.

If you are using the correct adapter, the next step is a full restore without using a backup. If it connects then, it may be an issue with some data corruption in your iPad's orignal data.

If it still won't connect after a restore, then you'll need to take it in to an Apple Store to get it diagnosed.

Same here, but I’m M2 iPad Pro 13" and Apple Pencil 2. I’ve reset, restarted, reset, tried iPadOS 26.4. Nothing works. Period. There’s nothing anywhere online that fixes this issue.

Different models of iPad and Pencil require different ways of pairing.

So no, not the same at all.

If after a restart the Pencil will still not pair, it may have failed. It can happen if it left discharged for an extended period of time.
